During your 3 minute session blood vessels in your skins surface and muscle tissue constrict, forcing blood toward your core. In the core, the body works to remove toxins and inflammatory properties in the blood. After your session, blood flows back to peripheral tissues. Now enriched with oxygen, nutrients and enzymes your blood warms the skin and muscle tissue and increases range in motion. The next 48 hours the body returns to a former and better state. Clients report benefits that include reduced pain and inflammation, increased energy levels, and shorter recovery times from injury or workouts.
Cryotherapy is the science of exposing the body to sub-zero temperatures in order to stimulate physical and mental health benefits. It reduces inflammation in the body by boosting an anti-inflammatory chemical called norepinephrine.
It will boost blood circulation throughout the body resulting in a higher metabolic and caloric burn rate. It also increases the level of endorphins which can elevate mood and reduce stress.
Cryotherapy increases collagen production, which in turn tightens the skin, and brings forth a youthful glow.
Inside the cryochamber you will wear socks, slippers and gloves; men will also wear briefs. You are welcome to leave your hair down and you can have on makeup. Do not apply lotion or any moisture to your skin an hour before your session. No jewelry or metals can be worn below the neck.
Whole Body Cryotherapy involves short exposure to extreme cold by the cryochamber, which is basically a human-sized tank filled with liquid nitrogen cooled air. Exposure can vary from 2-3 minutes in temperatures that plummet to -266º F. This is the equivalent to an ice bath for one hour. Cold Therapy is great for a speedy healing process. The cold constricts the blood vessels and reduces blood flow to the area, reducing pain, swelling, and inflammation.
Your first whole body cryotherapy appointment can take anywhere between 15-20 minutes so that we can fully educate you on the process and answer any questions you may have. Your appointment may take up to thirty minutes.
The ideal time for Cryotherapy is about an hour post-exercise to improve performance and recovery.
Curbing Pain, Boosting Recovery, Collagen Production, & Fat Burning
Cryotherapy triggers anti-inflammatory norepinephrine release that reduces short-term pain from injuries. It also makes intensive physical therapy more tolerable for chronic pain conditions like fibromyalgia, chronic back-pain, and osteoarthritis. While it decreases inflammation it is also stressing your body enough to keep your cells working overtime, which can increase the immune system by increasing white blood cells. It can also increase the antioxidants which help support liver and immune function, optimize cellular functions, and aid against stress.
Another added benefit of Cryotherapy is Collagen production, which is the protein behind strong cartilage, joints, skin and hair. While it boost Collagen, it is also inhibiting Cortisol, which breaks down collagen and can disrupt healthy blood sugars and sleep patterns.
Cryotherapy induces Cold Thermogenesis, which is the body responding to extreme cold by boosting metabolism to heat up the body and in turn burning off fat cells. Cold exposure produces endorphins which make you feel better and increase production of norepinephrine, which in turn effects energy, focus, mood, and sleep patterns.
Additional Benefits of Cold Thermogenesis and Cryotherapy
Cold thermogenesis benefits obviously are related to fat loss but here are some other benefits that are less commonly talked about:
Increase Hormone levels
Increase Lean Body Mass
Increase Athletic Performance
Strengthen Adrenal Function
Increase Immune System
